Day 1

We meet you at the international Chinggis Khan airport of Mongolia upon arrival and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, we will visit the National History Museum of Mongolia close to your hotel and have a short walk around Sukhbaatar square. In the evening soak up some traditional Mongolian culture in a concert with talented throat singers, dancers and the famous contortionist girls.

Day 2

This morning from Chinggis Khan airport we take a one hour flight to Hovsgol province in the North. Upon landing, you will be greeted by the Harganat team at the local airport at half an hour drive to Harganat River Lodge. Check- in at the lodge, relax in your yurt or have a drink on the terrace with panoramic view on the Delger Murun river valley. In the afternoon explore the area in a hike to the Holy Mountains vulture nest while passing impressive bronze age graves.

Day 3

Meeting our riding horses and introduction ride into the majestic Holy Mountains Going up and down the saddle is a good exercise to adjust. Watching eagles and vultures hovering over you and watch their nests from a close distance. From the peak of the mountain you have a magnific 360 degrees view. Walk down over steep slopes, then stretch after the first hour on the saddle and ride on to the Deer stone heritage site. Seemingly timeless looking beautiful bronze age rock drawings. After half a day ride a wide flat valley appears to taste your first gallop and go back in your own tempo to the lodge.

Day 4

Start of the trek to the South passing a green valley full of edelweiss and little frogs in summer. A pack horse carries our luggage. On horseback we cross the meandering Delger murun river, a very special feeling. The Mongolian horses know their territory good so trust them in finding the right spot to pass as does your guide! The path goes up through the steppe up to the Erchim mountain range, actually the majestic high forests we always see from Harganat River Lodge. With the Delger Murun river in sight our first sleep over is at the edge of the taiga forest in Erchim mountain.

Day 5

After breakfast we ride towards the West. Start from the long gorge Zag Zuu further going up to the top. In the evening we will be 300 m higher elevated than the morning.

Day 6

Today ride on a high plateau where we visit a nomad family. In the afternoon we descent to a little river valley where the nomad families of the area spend their summer. We camp between their yurts/gers.

Day 7

Ride along the river passing thousands of sheep, hundreds of yak until we reach Sangiin Dalai Lake, a remote salty lake.

Day 8

Relaxing day near the lake. You can rest or explore the surroundings of the lake and try out some fly fishing, the most elegant, sportive and ecological way of fishing.

Day 9

Heading back along a forest mountain with little river.

Day 10

Coming down to Delger Murun river valley and camp near the river.

Day 11

Ride along the road, go over a high mountain pass Huh Hutul with a gorgeous view and camp near the Delger Murun river.

Day 12

After passing Burentogtoh village, we cross the Delger Murun river where we can see the pinnacle mountain with upstanding stones strangely positioned. Then come down to Surt valley. One of the nomads in the area breeds camels, who knows we spot them somewhere.

Day 13

Riding down the valley passing many horse groups and coming back to the lodge.

Day 14

Day to rest @ Harganat River Lodge and enjoy good memories of a stunning horse trek in the mythical land of the horses.

Day 15

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. In the afternoon there is time to stroll around town or go shopping for some high quality wool garments like the famous Mongolian cashmere and saying goodbye dinner.

Day 16

Transfer to Chinggis Khan airport for departure.

A small group horse trek includes:

2 horsemen, 1 translator, 1 cook

4 pack horses, 6 to 8 riding horses

Hotels on the way (2 nights in Ulaanbaatar, 3 nights in Harganat River Lodge)

Camping with tent

Breakfast, lunch and dinner
